The Most Interesting Man In The World and Me

Back in the earlier part of this century I managed to land a very interesting gig that had me doing interviews and short features on pop culture or anything that would interest the 20something/30something male mind.
It was called Urban Male Magazine (UMM) and was the Canadian take on the then "hot" lad mag trend that included other stalwarts like FHM and Maxim. My assignments tended to be all over the map, things interviewing aspiring models with both typical and untypical lives or people like a former CIA agent trying to promote his book on the secrets of spotting lie detection in others.
Jonathan Goldsmith - aka the Dos Equis Most Interesting Man In The World - was my one of assignments in 2011. (Kinda) unsurprisingly he was both insightful and deep and the conversation took me well beyond the character and the actor. In fact the actor was as easily as enchanting as the character he played.
Discussing the character was the easy part. It was a brilliant marketing concept sure, but what Jonathan Goldsmith added to the mix went well beyond merely inhabiting a role. It's almost as if the actor was portraying himself and he offered me a rare glimpse into the golden era of Hollywood, or at least what we like to think it was.
The material was almost limitless which now, in the era of personal media, makes me think the rest needs to heard.
